The cash drawer, its float and the Z-report

Open Drawer under Money & people. Enter the cash you physically counted before the first sale in Starting float. Add an optional note, then press Open drawer in the bar at the foot of the page. The float is the day's baseline; opening later does not claim cash that was already taken.

If cash was taken while no drawer was open, Torqix lists it as unattributed. It is not quietly added to the next session's expected figure. Open the drawer at the start of the day to keep future cash sales inside one countable session.

Cash that is not a sale

Use Cash in and Record paid in for money placed in the till outside a sale. Use Cash out and Record paid out for money removed. Both require a Reason, because without it a later difference cannot be explained. Each movement keeps its time and the name of the person who recorded it.

The running tiles show the opening float, cash sales, cash tips, refunds, paid in or out, and Expected in drawer. That expected figure also follows the bottom of the page so it remains visible beside the close control.

Count, close and read the Z-report

Count the physical cash and enter it under Counted. If it differs from the expected figure, explain it under What happened?. Press Close drawer. A difference is recorded with your name; Torqix never adjusts it away to make the day appear balanced.

Each row under Closes opens its Z-report. The report freezes the close-time reconciliation, takings by tender, invoice and sales-tax figures, movements, and notes. A closed report does not change when later work is entered.

If cash is found later, do not rewrite the original. On the Z-report enter the new count under Recounted, explain it under What was found?, and record the recount. The original close remains visible and the new entry tells the rest of the story.
