Coupons: named discounts with a code

Set up a coupon once with a name, a code, dates and what it takes off, then apply it from the order in one step. It still goes through your discount limits.

For owner, manager, service advisor · checked against the product on 2026-10-06

A coupon is a discount with a name, a code and dates, set up once so nobody retypes it. It is not a pre-approved discount. Applying one goes through the same discount limits as a discount typed by hand, so a coupon worth more than an advisor's limit waits for a manager or the owner, exactly as a typed one would.

Setting one up

  1. Step 1: Open the list

Go to Settings › Coupons and press New coupon. You need the settings key.

  2. Step 2: Name it and give it a code

The name is what the customer's estimate and invoice print beside the discount. The code is what an advisor types — letters, numbers and dashes, two to thirty-two of them. Codes are not case sensitive, and two live coupons at one location cannot share one.

  3. Step 3: Say what it takes off

Pick A percentage or A dollar amount, then choose The whole order or One service and the service from your menu. A one-service coupon is a percentage of that service's work only.

  4. Step 4: Set the limits you want

Minimum spend refuses the coupon on a smaller order, Most it takes off is a ceiling in dollars, and Starts and Ends are days on your shop's own calendar. Leave any of them blank for none. Then press Add coupon.

The figures above the list count Live coupons, Redemptions and the money Given. A redemption counts once its discount is approved and for as long as it stays on the order. Demo and test data never count. Editing a coupon changes what the next order gets — orders it is already on keep their discount. Archive takes it off the list and the picker; its redemptions still count.

Putting one on an order

Open the Coupons fold in the order's right-hand rail. Type the code into Coupon code, or choose one from the list of this shop's live coupons, and press Apply coupon. Inside your limit, the discount comes off at once and the fold shows it as the discount line, named for the coupon. Over your limit, it shows Waiting for approval and the Discount panel under it holds the request — nothing has come off yet.

The customer's estimate, invoice and receipt print the same discount row they always did, with the coupon's name beside it, so a coupon called Fall tune-up reads as Discount · Fall tune-up. Remove coupon takes an applied coupon back off, and the customer is asked again because the price went up.
